Because You Love Me - A Song of Protection and Presence

Updated: 4 days ago

Because You Love Me - Song by Alan Lowis

Across the world’s spiritual traditions, across time and across cultures, humanity has always reached for something greater in moments of fear, uncertainty, or longing. And throughout those traditions, one theme returns again and again: The desire for protection, guidance, and a sense of being safely held and loved.

This longing has shaped some of the most beautiful texts in human history.

Buddhism — The Metta Sutta

“May all beings be happy. May they be safe. May they be protected. May they walk unharmed.”

Hinduism — Shanti Mantra (Upanishads)

“Lead me from the unreal to the real. Lead me from darkness to light. Lead me from death to immortality.”

Native American — Lakota Prayer

“Wakan Tanka, Great Mystery, protect me on my path. Walk with me. Make my way safe and my heart strong.”

Taoism — Tao Te Ching

“He who dwells in the Tao is safe. No harm can enter his heart, for he is one with the Source.”

Islam — Ayat al-Kursi (Qur’an 2:255)

“He is the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. His protection extends over the heavens and the earth, and He tires not in guarding them.”

Zoroastrianism — Ahuna Vairya Prayer

“May the Divine protect those who choose righteousness.

May the powers of light guard those who walk in truth.”

African Traditional (Yoruba)

“The ancestors walk with me. No evil shall pass where their feet stand.”

Sufi Mysticism — Rumi

“Wherever you walk, you are carried by the Beloved. You are never alone. You are held in the arms of Love.”

Across continents and centuries, the language changes, the images change, but the essence remains:

You are not alone. You are guided and watched over. You are protected.

Amid these universal expressions of protection, Psalm 91 stands as one of the most cherished in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Its imagery of refuge, shelter, deliverance, and divine guardianship has comforted countless people for thousands of years.

It was the inspiration for this song - Because You Love Me.

Yet Psalm 91 — like many ancient texts — is written in the third person:

He will protect you… He will deliver you…

He will cover you with His wings…

Beautiful, powerful words. But perhaps, even more powerful when spoken to you in the first person.

Because You Love Me, brings those promises directly to you. Here, the Universe — God, Source, Love, the Infinite — speaks straight into your heart:

Because you love Me, I will rescue you. I will protect you. You will call upon Me, and I will answer you.

No intermediary. No distance. No abstraction.

Just you and the voice of the Infinite in direct relationship.

And throughout the song, your own voice rises in response:

I dwell in safety. I rest in protection. I am watched over. I am guided.

This is more than a prayer. It is more than a psalm. It's an experience. It's a relationship. It's a remembering: A recognition of something omnipresent, that has always held you, even in the moments you could not feel it.

May this song bring you back to that truth. May it chase away fear, strengthen your spirit, and remind you of the unseen presence that always walks beside you, behind you, and within you.

May it awaken the universal message shared by every tradition across time. And, may you know, deeply and unshakably, that God, the Universe, the Infinite, Love, Life itself, by whatever name you choose to call it, is watching over, guiding and protecting you, always.

If this touched you, pass it on.

Someone you know may need to hear that they are watched over, supported, and carried — no matter what name they call the love that holds them. Remind someone that they are never alone, that they are always held, protected, and loved.
